This morning, Nathaniel Preston, 28, homeless, was arraigned at Quincy District Court on the following charges: Attempt to Commit a Crime (Carkjacking), Armed Carjacking, and Larceny of a MV. Prosecutors asked that he be held on $100,000 bail.
On the evening of March, 14, 2019, officers responded to a report of a female victim that was carjacked at gunpoint on Newport Ave. The victim stated that the male suspect jumped in front of her vehicle in the area of Marshalls. He displayed a small silver handgun and demanded that she get out of the car. The victim complied and the suspect drove away in her vehicle. She described the suspect as a black male, 20's, approx. 5'6", thin, wearing a gray hoodie and dark colored pants.
While speaking with the female victim, officers were approached by a second victim who stated that he was previously in drive-thru line at the Wendy's on Newport Ave when a black male in his 20's, approx. 5'6", wearing a dark green hoodie, walked up to his driver's window. The suspect pulled on the window and demanded the victim to get out. The victim drove away.
While officers spoke to the two victims, dispatch received another report of a (possible) carjacking which occurred on Elmwood Park. The second victim, a male, stated that he left his vehicle unlocked and running while he delivered food to a residence. The victim stated that a black male entered his vehicle and drove off.
Detectives conducted a thorough investigation off all three incidents and determined the black male involved in these crimes to be Mr. Nathaniel Preston.
