Mayor Appoints John Cadegan As Fire Chief

Mayor Thomas P. Koch today appointed Deputy Fire Chief John M. Cadegan as the new City of Quincy Fire Chief.  

Chief Cadegan has over 33 years of experience in fire fighting, prevention and suppression. He joined the Quincy Fire Dept. as a Firefighter in 1985. He was promoted to Fire Lieutenant in 2007 and in that time furthered his experience on both engine and ladder companies and was certified as a Massachusetts EMT Emergency Medical Technician.

In 2011, he was promoted to Fire Captain managing and supervising lieutenants and fire fighters and operations of the fire house including coordination of groups, apparatus and general management. In 2014, Cadegan was promoted into the role of Deputy Fire Chief managing city wide fire staff – Group 2. He has been responsible for strategies and tactics of the fire ground and communication of new initiatives, protocols and fire related information while initiating and developing safety and pre-planning procedures for fire personnel.

“Jack Cadegan has grown in every role in his career with the Quincy Fire Department. He is well respected by the men in the department and has an excellent knowledge of the challenges and different situations that are part of today’s environment. He is on the top of his game and I look forward to working with him in his new role,” said Mayor Thomas P. Koch at today’s ceremony.

Chief Cadegan has replaced Fire Chief Joseph Barron who has retired after 40 years of service. 

“Chief Cadegan has worked side by side with us as a firefighter for more than 30 years, and we are thrilled he’s now leading the department. He has the respect of all us on the job, he knows the demands of a growing City and he knows it what it takes for us to our jobs safely every day. We applaud Mayor Koch on the appointment and congratulate Chief Cadegan,” Quincy Firefighters Local 792 said in a statement.
