Interior construction on South West Middle School continues this week. The newest school for the City of Quincy is set to be complete and opened for students April 2018.
According to Bond construction management and the Quincy Public Buildings Dept., the 95,000 SF state of the art learning facility build is running on schedule as planned. Crews are working on exterior masonry and siding into November 2018 before the winter months. Interior work will continue through March 2019. The move into the new building is planned during April 2019 school vacation. The demolition of the adjacent, existing Sterling Middle School building will take place in June 2019. Landscaping of the area is set to be complete October 2019.
“The new South West Middle School will offer these children a state of the art learning environment and help prepare them for higher education and their future beyond,” shared Mayor Thomas P. Koch.
The school will feature collaborative learning spaces, media center, gymnasium, music and art rooms, science labs with greenhouses, administrative offices, café and auditorium.
