On Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at approximately 3:10pm, Quincy police communications received a 911 call for a B&E in progress on Sherman St. Multiple officers responded to the scene. The caller reported that her home was broken into and two male suspects fled on foot. The caller reported seeing a black Infiniti outside her home prior to the break.
Upon officers' arrival, a perimeter was set up in an effort to contain the suspects. Officers Leuchte and Brokmeier noticed a black Infiniti parked out in front of the address. The operator, identified as 20 year old Lezhan Santos, was immediately detained.
Officer DiMattio was able to interview the victim and get further information. The victim explained to officers that she heard the doorbell ring three times. She then heard the side door shaking. She went to her window and observed two males enter a black Infiniti that was parked outside her house. This vehicle then drove away. She said one male suspect had a red backpack, black jacket and a dark baseball hat. The other suspect was wearing a dark jacket. A few minutes later, she heard the rear door being kicked in. She heard an intruder(s) downstairs on the first floor and called 911. Moments later she heard police sirens. She looked out her window and observed the same two suspects running from the back of her house.
As Officer DiMattio interviewed the victim, Sgt. Faherty observed a gray Acura stopped on North Central Avenue. He stopped his cruiser and noticed two black males standing on the curb. Both black males were late teens/early 20s and were wearing dark clothing and carrying cell phones. As Sgt. Faherty placed his cruiser in park, both male parties ran. One ran down Brook Street towards Newport Avenue and the other took a left (northbound) onto Taylor Street off of Brook Street. He took note of the license plate and ordered the driver to remain on scene as he began a foot pursuit of the suspects. The driver then drove off quickly toward Beale Street. At this point multiple police units responded and assisted in an extensive search and K9 track of this area for both suspect.
Meanwhile, Sgt. Duran, who was working a detail in the area, observed the gray Acura that had just fled from Sgt. Faherty. Officer O'Donnell stopped the vehicle and the driver, identified as Hericles Cardoso, was placed under arrest.
No injuries were reported during this incident. The victims did not report anything missing from the home, but believed that two exterior cameras had been removed prior to the break.
