Beginning this week, Cottage Avenue will be restricted to traffic between Chestnut Street and Cottage Street (the street side of the Four’s Restaurant) while construction of the new parking garage in that area is underway. This section of Cottage Avenue will be closed to vehicular traffic during the day from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Work on Cottage Avenue will be progressing down toward Hancock Street as utilities and roadway improvements are being upgraded.
Work on the new sewer infrastructure continues at the intersection of McGrath Highway and Dennis Ryan Parkway. Contractors will be installing sewer pipe and a manhole which will tie into the existing sewer system in the intersection. Work for this operation will take place on the weekends (Sat. & Sun.) from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. This work will progress north up Dennis Ryan Parkway. Once complete, the remaining sewer and water work in Dennis Ryan Parkway will take place during the weekdays from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Construction of a new 712-space public parking garage, civic space and public park, and a 15-story mixed-use tower in the Hancock Parking Lot is estimated to be complete within the next 18-24 months.
New signage has been posted throughout the downtown to highlight parking changes.
Weekday parking is available in the 400 space Ross parking area. Free weekend parking is available in the Quincy Mutual Insurance lot accessed via Foster Street Thursday thru Saturday evenings beginning at 5 p.m. This is in addition to the existing 200 free spaces available every evening at the Bellotti Courthouse -- directly across from the Chestnut Street entrance to the former Hancock Lot. On-street parking is also available.
Parking ambassadors will be working Thursday thru Saturday on behalf of the City to guide drivers to both these lots in addition to the Ross lot.
