DRUG UNIT RECOVERS TWO FIREARMS. FIVE ARRESTED

DRUG UNIT RECOVERS TWO FIREARMS. FIVE ARRESTED

At about 5:12PM on Tuesday, September 19, 2017, members of the Quincy Police Drug Control Unit were conducting surveillance in the Quincy Point area due to recent complaints. Detectives observed what they believed to be a drug transaction occurring between the occupants of two vehicles in the parking lot of Cleverly Court Park. Officers immediately recognized one of the individuals from past drug investigations. Officers approached a Maxima that was parked in the lot and requested the four occupants exit the vehicle. Upon exiting the vehicle, one individual, now identified as Daequian Ruffin, took off running. A brief foot chase followed and Mr. Ruffin was taken into custody. A search of his jacket recovered a loaded Ruger .380 handgun with an obliterated serial number. A subsequent search of the Maxima recovered a second firearm, a Ruger SR22, with an obliterated serial number.

Five individuals were arrested and taken into custody.

Daequian Ruffin, 21, of Tina St, Brockton, was arrested and charged with Illegal Possession of a Firearm, Possession of Firearm in Commission of a Felony, Possession of Firearm with Defaced Serial Number, Illegal Possession of Ammunition, Possession Class B With Intent to Distribute, Drug Violation Within 100 feet of a Park, Resisting Arrest, and Possession of Alcohol in Park (Violation of City Ordinance 9.04.030).

Jesse Collins, 25, of Nelson Street, Dorchester, was arrested and charged with Illegal Possession of a Firearm, Possession of Firearm with Defaced Serial Number, Illegal Possession of Ammunition, Possession of Class B (cocaine), and Possession of Alcohol in Park (Violation of City Ordinance 9.04.030).

Elijah Marcelo, 20, of Westomore St, Mattapan, was arrested and charged with Possession of Class B (cocaine), and Possession of Alcohol in Park (Violation of City Ordinance 9.04.030).

Mohammed Alkhatib, 26, of Chubbuck St, Quincy, was arrested and charged with Possession With Intent to Distribute Class D (marijuana), and Drug Violation Within 100 feet of a Park.

Giovani Cesar, 28, of Bower Rd, Quincy, was arrested and charged with Possession Class B (cocaine) Subsequent Offense, Possession of a Class C (Molly) Subsequent Offense, and (2) Default Warrants.

All five are due to be arraigned in Quincy District Court this morning.
