Tax Collection Office

This Department collects all taxes, including auto excise, boat excise, personal property, real estate, and water/sewer usage. Once the tax commitment list and warrant is duly and properly signed by the Assessors, tax bills are mailed out to each person assessed, resident and non-resident.

The Tax Collector also appoints Deputy Collectors to assist in the collection of delinquent auto excise. Quincy has three (3) Deputy Collectors. When an auto excise tax is approximately 45 days overdue, a warrant for collection is issued and assigned to a deputy. At times it is necessary to communicate directly with the Registry of Motor Vehicles to assist in the collections.

The Tax Office is also required, through the Collector, to furnish Municipal Lien Certificates (MLC) upon request. This certificate compels the Collector to list all taxes and other assessments, including water/sewer usage and other charges which, at the time, constitute unrecorded liens on a parcel of real estate.  The requested MLC is processed within ten (10) business days. The cost to the applicant for this service is $25.00 per parcel.

Miscellaneous responsibilities required by law in Tax Collections, are processing Tax Takings and distributing refunds on overpayments.
