To schedule a pick-up of Appliances, Scrap Metal, TVs and Monitors call 617-376-7556 at least one full business day before your regular trash pick-up day.
The City of Quincy provides weekly curbside trash and recycling collection for its residents of one- to eight-family dwellings and condominiums through Capitol Waste Services. Curbside collection services are performed Monday through Friday. Household trash generated by the daily operation of normal household tasks is incinerated at the Covanta Semass "waste-to-energy" facility in W. Wareham, MA.
The Importance of Re-cycling
Your trash is weighed and the city is billed for its disposal. Currrently the City pays $93.57 per ton for trash disposal. In fiscal year 2011 that cost Quincy taxpayers $2,675,272.
Recycling cardboard, paper, glass, metal and plastic reduces the weight of trash, and provides revenue to the city. Since July 2008 the residents of Quincy reduced their trash tonnage by 3,408 tons, saving $302,803 and earning over $255,000 in recycling revenue.
That's money that can be used to enhance services like public health and safety, education, senior services and recreation.
Capitol Waste is not contracted to collect trash or debris from "move-outs" or "clean-outs" of rooms, apartments, basements or garages. Please contract with a private vendor for these activities or utilize the City's special disposal rate at the Braintree Transfer Station. See related links below.
Businesses and Apartment Buildings
Businesses and apartment buildings with more than eight units must privately contract for solid waste removal. It is illegal for these entities to use the City's curbside collection system. Likewise, it is illegal for anyone to place trash from outside the City curbside for pickup. Anyone can bring recyclables to the DPW yard.
If you see illegal placing of trash, please call a Code Enforcement Officer at 617-376-1238.
Please have your trash and recycling ready for pick-up by 6 A.M. on the morning of your pick-up day. No rubbish may be placed for collection more than one day prior to scheduled pickup and empty containers shall be removed within one day of pickup. See Collection Schedule below for your pick-up day.
In the event of a holiday, that day's collection and all remaining collection days for the rest of the week will be delayed for one day. Friday's collection would be on Saturday.
Missed Pick-up
To report a missed pick-up please call Capitol Waste Services at 617-376-7556.
Helpful Hints

Mercury is not Just a Planet -State law bans the disposal of products containing mercury in the trash.
Mercury is a toxic metal. When it is released into the air (by trash incinerators, landfills and wastewater discharges) it can accumulate in people and wildlife. Children and fetuses are particularly vulnerable, because it can damage their developing nervous systems.*
Bring your Mercury containing items such as: Thermostats Thermometers Button Batteries Neon Lamps Barometers Flow Meters Hydrometers Switches and Relays Fluorescent Lamps U-Tubes CFL (swirly bulbs) Ni-cad and Lithium batteries

Construction and Demolition Materials
State law prohibits the disposal of construction and demolition debris (C & D), through the regular curbside collection service. The City of Quincy has obtained a special rate for Quincy residents to dispose of household C&D. Quincy residents can now bring their household C&D to the Braintree Transfer Station located at 257 Ivory St. for a cost of 10 cents per pound. Ivory St. is off Union St., and is across from the Braintree Commuter Rail Station.
In addition to keeping banned material from contaminating the solid waste stream this special rate will save the city thousands of dollars in disposal fees and encourage homeowner to do the right thing.
The Braintree Transfer Station is open to residents Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. All payments must be made on a credit card only. For more information call 781-843-6209.
