The Quincy Police Department's Scuba Unit is comprised of two lieutenants, three sergeants and twenty patrol officers who participate in the unit in addition to their regular police duties. All-conditions scuba gear and dry suits allow year-round operations under any circumstances.
The core functions of the Scuba Unit are:
- Counter-terrorism security searches of maritime vessels and port facilites
- Provide high visibility, proactive, intelligence-led patrols and operations in collaboration with the QPD Marine Unit
- Illicit drug trafficking searches and enforcement
- Carrying out multi-agency initiatives with the US Coast Guard, State & Environmental Police, and US Immigration and Customs Enforcement
- Search and recovery of bodies, vehicles and other items of evidence
