Mooring Permits
The Quincy Police Marine Unit is responsible for policing 26 miles of coastline and 25 square miles of coastal waters from the Neponset River to the Fore River including Quincy Bay.
Places of note in the area include the Neponset and Fore River Bridges, Sprague Energy Oil Terminal, Citgo Braintree Oil Terminal, Twin Rivers Industries plus numerous marinas, recreational and commercial maritime sites.
The unit is made up of one Lieutenant and three patrol officers.
The main functions of the Marine Policing Unit are:
- 24-hour waterborne response to incidents
- Counterterrorism searches and operations in collaboration with the QPD Scuba Unit
- Harbor Management
- Investigating marine-related crime
- Searching for and recovering missing people and evidence
- Providing core policing support on water and in waterfront areas to QPD and neighboring police departments
- Gathering, collating and actioning maritime intelligence
- High visibility patrols
- Carrying out multi-agency initiatives with the US Coast Guard, State & Environmental Police, and US Immigration and Customs Enforcement
- Fuel tanker escorts
- Public reassurance
- Crime prevention initiatives
- Boater safety education
